Norway will be getting some new ambulances, and I think they look rather cool..

This one in british livery, but quite similar to the ones we'll get on Norway.

Cool, but not my favourite. (It wins bonus points from me, as the only ambulance I've ever actually been in was a Defender.)

A Defender as an ambulance will always score high on the "holy crap that's cool"-meter :)

Not sure if I'd trust it with my life, however.

Land Rovers aren't exactly known as the most reliable vehicles in the world.

It certainly looks more practical and capable than a converted Volvo estate car but why aren't they based on the Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter or Iveco Daily like a lot of Europe?

Is '113' purely for ambulances or is it Norway's main emergency number like Europe's 112 and Britain's 999?

113 is just for ambulances, we've got 112 as a general emergency number..

We've got ambulances based on sprinters as well. These Amaroks will be our small ambulances.

Range Rovers are the primary source of that particular reputation.

Cool. Though there is a British one there I think the uptake of these in the U.K. will be small as many of our ambulance services are having to invest in fat ambulances.

Kinja'd!!!

To cope with more obese patients that the service is seeing more and more of.

Though the vast majority are only as unreliable as the owner responsible for it's maintenance. I've come across many non-Land Rover people who buy a Range Rover for it's prestige badge but have no idea how to drive need less look after them.

I feel sorry for those Landies made to look like a tarts handbag and abused the way they are.

Nice! We in 'Murcia have truck based amber lamps. Although my local FD has Merc Sprinter vans.

Hehe, the VW Amarok pretty much IS a truck up here though :P

Nothing compared to an F-Series or GM truck based Ambulance. Which I have ridden in when my dad drove them. Front seats are nice and so is the weird paramedic seat in the back. That thing sucked to fall asleep in.

Hehe, I know they are small compared to the monstrosities in the US. But up here a Toyota Tundra is considered a huge motherfucking beast (Well, most people think that, I used to drive lorry's and such..)

I've seen one just like that in the Philippines when I was there in March. My jaw dropped it was definitely not something I would of expected to see there.

Ambulances there are normally along the lines of something like this.

Anything longer than 220" won't fit in a parking spot :P

They do have a way of getting places you wouldn't necessarily expect to see them.

Wait what? You didn't know how long a Tundra was? Regular cab short bed = 210" Regular cab long bed = 229" Double Cab long bed = 248".

Our Chevy is like 256" so that wouldn't fit. I was more surprised at how small the spots are.

I may have been taking numbers out of my ass, but I'd say 220 - 225" is pretty much spot on for length. Keep in mind that we usually never drive anything bigger than a Mercedes E-Class or perhaps an Audi A8. We mostly drive stuff like a VW Passat (euro version) or a Ford Focus.

yeah that's true. Long cars are our thing here in the US. But trucks can take up 1.5 spots.

Yeah, trucks, vans and lorrys tend to take up a couple of spots here as well.

But you're still driving it everyday! Also my grandfather dailies his Chevy. It pretty comfortably except when towing it gets rough.

I'm just having a go at you mate :) I'd love an F-450 or something as a DD. But I must admit that I love my tiny Ford Fiesta with it's puny engine also, I can toss it around with the flick of a finger.

Thats why you have the truck for the rough stuff you need done and the pesky little fiesta for the fun!
